Family Therapy

At Breakthrough, we help families understand how their relationships work as a unit and how relationship dynamics impact the family’s communication and responses to everyday life and major life events.

Our therapists are specifically trained in helping family members communicate and relate to one another.  This is done by facilitating communication strategies such as perspective-taking in order to improve family connections and build healthier relationships.

Our therapists are also highly experienced in addressing custody-related concerns between parents/caregivers. Breakthrough therapists have experience testifying in court and are available to provide both factual and expert testimony in court proceedings.

Group Therapy

Breakthrough offers many different Therapy Groups, including groups for Parents/Caregivers, Individuals struggling with Grief/Life Transitions and Divorce, Women, and Teenagers. The Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) group (recommended age range: 13 to 17 years old) uses evidence-based practices to teach skills and support growth. Our groups provide individuals with the opportunity to learn other perspectives, feel less alone in their own experiences, develop peer connections, and practice skills that will help them when difficult moments arise. The adolescent DBT group is designed for teens interested in managing their difficult emotions and improving their relationships. Adolescents learn distress tolerance skills, emotion regulation skills, “walking-the-middle path” skills, and interpersonal effectiveness skills. Groups are engaging by focusing on hands-on activities, real-life examples, and encouraging peer connections, which allows teens to practice these important life skills in their everyday lives. Parents will participate in corresponding parent sessions to support the use of the skills at home.
